I’ve been a bit MIA from blogging, but somehow I have received a couple of awards from two darling bloggers.

1) Two Little Lambs has given me an award!

Thank you so much! This is my first award of 2009 as well! Her blog is quite darling. (I’m especially a fan of the music.)

This fabulous award comes with a few rules:
1. Put the logo on your blog or post.
2. Nominate at least 10 blogs which you think are fabulous. Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.
3. Let them know that they have received this award by commenting on their blog.
4. Share the love and link to this post and to the person from whom you received your award.

Now comes the hard part… I always have such difficulty choosing.

1. Teen Fashionista Grows Up
2. Couture Carrie
3. Styleaholica
4. Etiquettely Correct
5. Pearls are a Girl's Best Friend
6. Mademoisselle Chic
7. Savvy Mode
8. My Preppy Pink Polo
9. Young and in Style
10. Tipsy in Madras

Apparently, I must also list 5 addictions:

1. Gossip Girl- more specifically, Gossip Girl Chuck and Blair Fanfiction… and the Waldass relationship :) Yes, I do feel like quite the clichéd swooning teenage girl.
2. Fruit Roll-Ups Mini Rolls- at only 40 calories a piece, they are a great sugar boost for late night study sessions. By the way, did you know that you can now personalize them?
3. Old classic films- especially Audrey films
4. Sudoku
5. Lookbook and other fashion sites and magazines
6. Almost any clothing/item that is mint green
7. Gum- It's one of my worst habits. (It makes me eat less and calm down.)
8. Headbands and ribbons- I own way too many of both.
9. Running- I haven’t gotten to run recently, but once I start, I don’t like to stop. The summer before my freshman year, when I wanted to lose weight, I ran five miles a day for the entire summer. I love the natural high that I get after exercise.
10. Lists- as you can see, I added five more addictions. I like longs to do lists. When I cross off each item, I feel accomplished.

2) The darling Europafox has given me three awards as well!

For the Lemonade Award, here are the rules:
1. Put the logo on your blog or post.
2. Nominate at least 10 blogs which show GREAT ATTITUDE and/or GRATITUDE!
3. Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.
4. Let them know that they have received this award by commenting on their blog.
5. Share the love and link to this post and to the person from whom you received your award.

1. Secretista- here music is always so uplifting and energetic and her updates always show such insightful thoughts from this lovely now-20 year old.
2. Nautical by Nature- she’s always so nice and wonderful in all of her posts- her sale recs are definitely so helpful.
3. Europafox- I wonder- can I give the award back to her? Her attitude towards life is terrific, and her life and family are darling!
4. Miss Couturable- she’s such a talented writer, yet quite gracious. (I wish I could write that well!)
5. Muffy Martini- this sunny engaged gal has such happy, entertaining and wonderful posts; her outlook on life is to be envied.
6. Prep in the Country- she’s always so lovely!
7. The Preppy Princess- her posts are always so informative, yet engaging.
8. Qin At The Disco- terrific outfits + wonderful attitude= great blog
9. All Things Southern & Preppy- her posts are always so energetic and her comments are always so supportive! She’s such a pleasant person!
10. Two Little Lambs- Her blog is always has such a positive outlook!

(I must admit, I actually can't read the above award.)

For these last two award, I want to honor all of my readers and followers. You all are terrific. Thank you all so much for reading!

Hiatus and Cupcake Comforts

Due to an overabundance of homework, tests, and other “school stuffs”, I shall be taking a bit of a break until first semester ends (around the end of January). Then I shall catch up on my posting, commenting, and responses.

Hope you all are having a less stressful week than I am!

If not, I suggest cupcakes to de-stress. Although not the healthiest of snacks, they are rather comforting

Warning: Cupcakes may cause weight gain. (Yes, what a novel idea.) I’m quite sure that cupcakes are solely responsible for my weight increase of nearly 5 pounds since school started. I seem to be several pounds over 100 now :(

10 Things to Round Out 2008 and a Look into 2009

Although I tend to not post much about celebrities, I’ve decided to today. Several of these items are about celebrities.

1. Britney. Her comeback’s been long awaited. While like many people I don’t agree with some of her former decisions (both personal and wardrobe related), I’m still rooting for her! Doesn’t she look quite happy and refreshed here on the January cover of Glamour?

A few more pictures...

2. Speaking of magazine covers, Leighton Meester is on the February 2009 cover of Teen Vogue. As a Blair fan, I’m quite happy. For more info, go here.

As I was looking online, I saw this picture of Leighton Meester with Emmy Rossum. I find both of their outfits quite lovely. I’ve mentioned before how well Emmy Rossum dresses, but doesn’t that dress look exactly like the one Blair wears during her mother’s wedding?

One more picture- I adore the dress. In fact, it looks quite similar to the dress I wore for my freshman Homecoming.

3. I have a tendency to save pictures of outfits that I like. Since it’s 2009, I’m trying to clean up my pictures a bit. Here are some of my favorite celebrity outfits that I’ve saved in 2008. I believe most were worn in 2008.
Taylor Swift- her outfits are always very lovely. This one is quite casual, but it fits quite well on her.

I find this jewel toned dress quite lovely.
I'm quite a fan of Amy Adams, even before Enchanted. I remember her from Cruel Intentions 2!

Another jewel toned dress; I like the collar.
Here come the white and sparkly items...
Am I the only one that wonders at J. Lo's amazing post-birth figure?
Her post-birth figure is amazing as well.
I'm generally not a huge fan of her style, but I like this dress that Cameron Diaz is wearing.
Leona Lewis is not only talented, but her outfits are usually quite lovely as well.

This pink is probably too bright for me, but I like the cut and style.

Although some of her outfits may be a bit outrageous for me, I often like the outfits Posh sports.
Perhaps a bit casual for the red carpet, but Amanda Peet's coat is darling.
I adore this coat!

In retrospect, this list was quite miscellaneous.

4. If you are into sweepstakes and such, don’t forget to enter into ELLEgirl Magazine’s Tracy Reese dress giveaway. The dress is quite lovely!

There is Eryn brinié’s sweepstakes as well. Unfortunately, I won’t be entering, seeing as my parents are quite adamantly against me giving out my address online. At least it means chances are better for you all!
5. Vogue’s Top 10 Best Dressed of 2008. Here are Fashionista’s comments, but what do you all think?
6. More on Fashionista- on December 29th, this post was published. Now there are 418 comments. It’s PostSecrets from various people about their fashion education, weight, height, etc.
So, what’s your fashion secret? Mine is that I wish I could go into a fashion related career, but my parents (and I) think it’s too risky.

7. I went shopping a couple of days ago and found terrific deals at Lord and Taylor. I was able to get 4 headbands, 2 pairs of earrings, a necklace, a hat, a slip, a Tibi dress, a Tibi skirt, a Tibi shirt, a Lacoste skirt, a pair of Trina Turk shorts, a pair of Trina Turk Bermuda shorts, a BCBG dress, a Cynthia Steffe jacket, and a Phoebe dress… all for under $300! I strongly recommend you all look into it if you have time. The sales were quite amazing.

8. Gossip Girl comes back on Monday! Here is a spoiler pick. I’m swooning over Nelly’s pink coat! The coat and bag on the right are lovely as well as Blair’s bag.

9. Monday means something else too- back to school and back to early mornings. At least I get to see this wonderful sunrise. (Yes, I did take this picture on the school bus. Many people were not happy about the flash waking them up.)

I hope you all have had an amazing Winter Break/holiday season. My break was very nice. It was terrific to get 12 hours of sleep each day! I go back to school on Monday, and unfortunately, I have a test on Tuesday.

10. I’d like to thank all of you for reading this blog. Your comments have been wonderful and make me believe that at least a few people care about what I have to say.

What better way to show appreciation than a virtual "thank you" cupcake?
A look into the new year… I can’t wait to see Bride Wars!
2008 was great, but 2009 is going to be mighty fine!
So, any resolutions for the new year?

Bows: Part One

Ever since Gossip Girl arrived on the scene a season or two ago, girls have been clamoring for headbands and bows. Although I must admit that I have expanded my collections of ribbons, headbands, and bows, I already did have a substantial collection. I’ve always been a fan of such items; as you can see, my love for them started quite early.

Granted, I was miffed for about a week when everyone started wearing headbands and bows which I always thought was a bit of my “signature”, but then I realized that I had no patent or any sort of claim to the style. Then like many others, I started seeing that bows were emerging all over fashion. I absolutely adore that I can now find so many Homecoming and Viennese Ball dresses with bows!

Anyway, so I made a folder of bow dresses about a month or so ago. This folder is now very large and consists of not only dresses, but also of watches, earrings, coats, etc. Since so many of you like bows just as much as I do, I figured that I would share some of my favorite bow dresses with you all.

I believe this is Alice and Olivia. It's so gorgeous.

Lilly, of course!

I'm not so sure that I would like the material or the color, but I do like the cut.
I'm quite a fan of this wedding dress.

I'm swooning!

This coat is what I wanted for Christmas.
The yellow Dior dress is so beautiful!

I always liked dresses that tied back into a bow when I was little.

I didn't make this set, but it is rather awesome.

Apparently, Jackie likes bows as well!

Sparkly with a bow!

This Juicy dress is perfect for the summer!

I absolutely love Luella items!

Bows have even made it onto formal dresses like this elegant Marchesa piece.

This pink Milly sweater reminds me of my figure skating sweaters from when I was 10.

The Moschino sets above and below weren't made by me, but they are so lovely that I posted them. I like the rosettes too!

This Nanette Lepore dress is so chic and classic!

This color is amazing.

My love affair with Milly items continues.

The color on this one is so bright!

Blair Waldorf never fails to impress! This Marc Jacobs dress is so adorable.

This Julianna Bass bow dress that I’ve mentioned before is quite lovely.

It's a bit difficult to see the bow, but it's there!
I adore the cranberry color on this Valentino dress.

Bow spotting! I never had time to watch The Hills regularly, but I always liked watching a few episodes occasionally. I wonder how The City will be.

This Zac Posen dress is so darling!
Part Two will be about accessories and will come out… someday.
Nota bene: I didn't make any of the sets or take any of the pictures. Unfortunately, I also forgot to write down who did, so I am unable to credit the pictures.

Junior Marathon, School, and Hiatus

The first time I ever read Miss Couturable’s blog I saw the quote, "Senior year is a sprint, junior year is a marathon, sophomore year is a practice run, and freshman is -- what the hell, I just entered a race!" Not only is her blog darling, but I definitely concur with that statement.

As you may know if you happen to read my school-related posts, my practice run was a disaster. My marathon has been better, but there is still so much room to improve. I’m nearing the half way mark, but as we all know, the second half of the marathon is definitely more difficult, especially when the runner hits the Heartbreak Hill (in the Boston Marathon). I’m guessing this “hitting the wall” feeling will be around the AP weeks and finals week.

Many of my closest friends and classmates are seniors this year. Several have already gotten into college. So far, I’ve heard of several students getting into College of William and Mary and Caltech (which is quite difficult with their numerous core physics requirements). I’ve been told that other letters come out tomorrow, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for them.

In other news, the school I attend was ranked the number one public high school in the United States by US News and World Report for the second consecutive year. Granted, I sometimes wonder if I would be happier and less stressed at a boarding or private school, I do realize how lucky I am to live in Northern Virginia with so many wonderful schools and opportunities.

Anyway, many of my extracurricular clubs and activities have been gearing up lately. For instance, I’m in charge of a Winter Accessories/Apparel Drive this year that the Student Government Association (SGA) is hosting. It starts tomorrow and supports a local homeless shelter (pictured above). I do hope it goes well.

I have a week and a half left before Winter Break- the first day of break is Christmas Eve! Since so many of my teachers want to have major tests these last 7 days of school, I shall be taking a bit of a hiatus until my break begins.
I cannot wait for Winter Break! (Hyperbole, perhaps, but I truly am quite excited.) Although a large majority of my time will be spent studying for my midterms (which are two weeks after Break), the tests scheduled for the day after break, and the SAT, I shall be also shopping, skiing, and going to a holiday party or two! What fun!
I hope all you lovely people have a few very festive days before break from school and work!

Yes, this is a cupcake ornament!

Penguins: Fluffy and Adorable

Miss Muffy Martini loves ostriches, while Secretista prefers elephants. I personally adore penguins. Not only do I have several stuffed animal penguins, but I also own penguin pajamas!

While this post may seem a bit random, it was inspired by an email about this Judith Leiber penguin minaudiere.

What I find most adorable are penguin cupcakes. These cupcakes by blue cupcake in LA are perfect for the holiday season.

There’s even a book called Penguin and the Cupcake by Ashley Spires! It’s definitely on my Christmas wish list!

A few more penguins that I find quite adorable...

So, what is your favorite animal?

Thanksgiving and Black Friday

By rlcheer92chic · November 27, 2008 · 9 Comments · 7 Views

Today is Thanksgiving. My parents and I don’t truly celebrate Thanksgiving with the whole turkey, stuffing, etc., but at least we all ate dinner together for once. (We often don’t get to eat dinner together as their evenings are interrupted on a daily basis with my busy schedules and sports practices.) Nevertheless, I would like to thank them for so much-

Mommy: For giving birth to me; for reading and editing every paper and project that I have ever written; for driving me to all of my appointments, practices, and competitions; for helping me with so many art projects; for taking five days off of work to send me to my internship because she thought I would get lost; for building KNEX Ferris wheels and roller coasters with me even though she was sick; for giving me hugs when I feel stressed; for sewing the ends of my cheer ribbons; for believing in me; for taking me shopping despite the fact that my daddy yells at us about wasting time; for not letting me shop with anyone else because she is afraid I’ll get kidnapped; for teaching me about life; for pushing me to be the best that I can be; and for being my best friend.

Daddy: For teaching me physics for seven hours until 2 in the morning; for not yelling at me even when I still did get only an 80 (a C) on the test; for giving up his library because I needed space to study and for moving to the upstairs library; for taking days off of work for my competitions; for paying for SAT classes despite his conviction that they are useless; for giving up a Ph. D degree four months short of graduation to go to graduate school in computer science because I was born; for not going back to China so that I could be born and raised in the United States, for putting up with my crazy eating issues; for buying a pink laptop for me even though he might have to use it when I go to college; for telling me ridiculously “fobby” jokes; and for shopping with me despite his conviction that it’s a waste of time.

They both yell at me about wasting time. They both are super strict about anything that concerns me and wasting time. (They would probably throw a fit if they knew that I blogged.) And they are the both the most amazing parents I could possibly have.

On another note: it’s almost time for Black Friday sales! I love shopping partially because I get new clothes, but also because I get to spend more time with my mommy. Unfortunately, since I have five tests next week, my parents are only allowing me to shop for a few hours. But then again, my parents have recently bought a Wii (a lovely surprise since I didn’t ask for one), a laptop, three pairs of shoes, and two cardigans for me within the last month, so I don’t think that I shall complain. Moreover, I wanted to go to Tysons, which is inevitably extremely crowded, so what is a few less hours?

I hope you all are having a lovely turkey day with your families. Happy shopping!

Colorful Winter Coats

So many of my friends are on Thanksgiving Break already, but I have two and a half more days. While I love having a long weekend to catch up on studying (and perhaps a little bit of shopping on Black Friday), I hate there are tests immediately before and after the break. This Tuesday I have a Multivariable Calculus test, an AP US test, and a Statistics quiz. Then immediately after break I have three tests the first day back. So after studying furiously for the last few days, I’m taking a quick break to post!

It’s been quite chilly outside lately. I’m changing from my fall coat (by Juicy, pictured above) to a wool coat from J. Crew (pictured below).

I love winter coats that are vibrantly colored. They bring out a certain cheeriness on bleak days on which I have many tests. Here are some of favorites that I’ve seen.

This Moschino Cheap and Chic coat is breathtaking, but at $2065 the price is breathtaking as well.

I’m quite a fan of this bright red scalloped coat. The color is stunning.

This Marc Jacobs coat is on sale at $284!

I absolutely adore the color of this ruffled cuff pea coat!

J. Crew has other wonderful coats that look so classy and sophisticated, for instance this wool Carrie coat.

I can imagine myself walking around a college campus wearing this cute orange houndstooth coat from J. Crew.

The color on this blue wool coat is spectacular. I like the sleeves as well!

This light blue Miu Miu coat looks so pretty!

The color on this Miu Miu princess coat is beautiful.

As for winter accessories- I’m in charge of the winter apparel drive that SGA is doing this year. Hopefully everyone will donate something.

In other news- I got an 800 on my math SAT II. Next month I have Latin, which I have yet to review for. It looks like I’m going to be studying during all of Thanksgiving break. I hope you all have a lovely week as I try to stumble through physics and reading Walden.

Gossip Girl: Winter Wardrobe and Yale

By rlcheer92chic · November 13, 2008 · 20 Comments · 407 Views
I saw a few Gossip Girl spoiler pics of new winter coats that are quite lovely.

I'm in love with this outfit, although I may be slightly partial since I have a very similar coat.

While I don't dislike the coat on the right, I absolutely adore the on the left. I'm quite a fan of the ruffles!

...

As I’m sure all of you Gossip Girl fans know, Blair Waldorf wants to go to Yale.

Last year, my school sent 19 students to Princeton, 7 students to Harvard, and 99 students to the in-state University of Virginia, which is ranked number 23 in the nation. Yes, 99 students.

Some of the most selective and high ranked universities in the nation seem to accept many of my school’s students while other schools seem to only accept a couple each year (for instance, Yale is notoriously difficult to get into from the school I go to).

Yet I know about five girls who are applying early to Yale. By some lucky chance three of them are some of my favorite seniors. They are wonderfully inspiring and gifted girls whose passions vary from Latin to physics to political science. They are the presidents of clubs and organizations of which I am an officer in. They made some of my classes (like Calculus BC) quite fun. They have amazing grades and even more amazing personalities.

I’ve gotten to know these girls over the last three years and I must say, I would hate to be the admissions officer who has to choose between them because they are all so truly wonderful.

With such great friends (and role models) competing for those very selective slots, I’m starting to worry even more about college. But I have developed a motto: It’s not how much you worry, it’s what you do about that worry, how you implement that worry into hard work.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for them and for a few other friends from school.

So, Blair Waldorf, you have some serious competition.

While I do own two origami books, I've never entirely mastered the art of Japanese paper folding quite like some of my Asian friends. Nevertheless, I do find this Fred Flare Origami Set lovely. At only $12, it would make a rather suitable birthday or Christmas gift for a little fashionista.

I hope you all had a great Monday!
