1950s and 1960s Style (In Film)

I received this picture in an email from net-a porter a while ago. I love the dresses in this picture. They look so elegant. I love the fashion and silhouettes from the 1950s and 1960s. I adore the full skirts- the circle and poodle skirts! And the dresses were fabulous as well.

The styles of the fifties and sixties can definitely be seen in clothing today as you can see in this picture from The Stepford Wives.

Of course there’s also Hairspray, which is set in the early 1960s. Although I’m not a fan of Amber’s bratty characteristics, I love the outfits Brittany Snow wears in the film. It’s the classic circle skirt! (By the way, a sequel is set to be released July 2010.)

In addition to circle skirts, there were poodle skirts. When I was younger I wore one for Halloween one year!
Evidently, in the 1950s, Ray-Bans were all the rage. Audrey Hepburn even wore them in Breakfast at Tiffanys!
Further, in Nancy Drew, Emma Roberts plays the title character who wears penny loafers. While I know very few girls my age that wear penny loafers, I actually do own a pair!

I saw this on J. Crew and simply loved it. (I consider it rather "1960s-esque" and cannot resist posting it, so I shall post it.)

I have heard from so many bloggers how they have found great steals and terrific pieces at vintage stores, I have never been in a vintage store before (my mommy won’t take me to one as she thinks that I wouldn’t be interested in anything used). Lately, I came upon an article detailing consignment stores. Now I’m quite motivated to find one. It looks quite fabulous, and perhaps I could find a classic 1950s piece!

I think that I shall leave with this beautiful and iconic picture of Jeannie Patchett taken by Norman Parkinson for the cover of Vogue, Paris, 1950.
